What is grownUp?

grownUp is a mobile app platform that connects the experienced generation of people to the younger generation seeking advice and help. We aim to create a community that utilizes human experiences to discuss a variety of personal, work, or life problems.

How do I verify or resend a verification email?

After creating your account, a verification email will be sent to the email address you used to sign up. It will expire after 24 hours, so please check your email after you’ve signed up. If you are not able to verify your account in the given time, you can send another verification email by logging in to your grownUp account, clicking on profile, and then clicking the link that says “Resend Email”. To be verified, you must click on the link provided in the sent email.

Why can’t I use grownUp on my Android phone?

Our programmers have created an app that we hope you will find enjoyable and very easy to use. We started with development on the iOS platform as requested by most of our expected users. The Android app development is underway and expected to be live on the Google Play Store in the beginning of 2019.

How do I reset my password?

Click on the login screen link to reset your password and an email will be sent to you with instructions and a link for changing your password.

Do I still get paid if the video chat gets interrupted or does not last the full 25 minutes?

For the sake of encouraging meaningful conversations, payment will be made only for completed video chats of 25 minutes or more. This is not anticipated to be a burden, but rather an opportunity for deeper conversation.

What do I do if one of my mentees sounds like they are in a dangerous situation or like they might do harm to themselves?

Get help. Suggest that your mentee talk to someone professionally certified to address issues as needed. Remember, you are valued as a mentor, but you aren’t expected to take on the liability of a professional counselor or therapist.

Why do I need a real profile picture?

Like any introduction, putting a face to a name is always meaningful, but you don’t need a studio glamour shot. grownUp is for real people interested in real conversations. Keep it simple and get the ball rolling.

How does payment work?

Once your account is set up and verified, you’re ready to go. You may want to make an initial connection with your Mentee by email or text, but we focus on video chat because we believe it offers the best and most sincere connection. Payments will be made to your Paypal account, once it has been verified. If you do not have an account, please set one up and send us your ID. If you already have one set up, please send us your account ID to be verified. Your ID is the email you used to sign up. Payments for all video chats in a month will be made at the end of the following month.

What do you expect from us?

We expect mentors to reply to posts within 24 hours. If you are not getting timely responses to your posts, please let us know. grownUp is designed to facilitate prompt responses by text so that a more extensive video chat can be set up. And be sure to frequently check the latest posts so you don’t miss out on some great mentees. As a mentor, it is very important to remember that mentees are looking to you for real life advice. For many, you may be the role model they’ve been looking for. While this should be a fulfilling role, it also comes with expectations that you will be careful with and respectful of the impact you will have on mentees. We want this to be a positive experience for everyone involved.

When should I ask for help?

Because this is real life, you may get into conversations about life experiences that are very challenging. With extensive life experience, mentors can give helpful life advice, but please remember that this will not qualify you as a professional counselor or therapist. If you ever feel like someone is having an emergency, they should immediately contact a licensed professional for support.

What should I do if I have any technical difficulties?

If you run into technical problems with the site features, messaging, or video chats, please let us know right away. Our staff is here to help your conversations go smoothly and make sure your time isn’t wasted. You can contact us by emailing our customer service department at contact@grownup.plus.
